Navarre Wind Farm

GIS, Geospatial Analysis, Terrain / Road Alignment

Lead geospatial resource on a proposed 400MW wind farm and battery storage hub of more than 100 turbines in Western Victoria, covering road alignments, 2D and 3D mapping and the client geoportal, on a toolchain that made layout options fast enough to genuinely optioneer.

Background

Navarre Green Power Hub is a proposed wind farm and battery storage project in Western Victoria, with an estimated capacity of around 400MW across more than 100 turbines.

What I built

As lead geospatial resource the work spanned road alignments, 2D and 3D mapping, and managing the Geoportal used for client deliverables. Building on earlier wind farm projects, a technique was developed to integrate several software tools into one process, which streamlined and semi-automated the design and presentation workflow.

Outcome

The team worked closely with the client and external ecologists to mitigate ecological impacts and optimise cost across the layout. The integrated toolchain meant layout options could be assessed and presented at a speed that manual iteration between packages would not have supported at this turbine count.

Where it goes next

The access road optimisation work developed here is documented separately as its own tool.
