Wairarapa Line Capacity Upgrades
GIS, Rail Corridor Modelling, Automation

Background
The KiwiRail Wellington Metro Upgrade Program 6B covers upgrades to the Wairarapa line between Upper Hutt and Masterton, focused on improving pedestrian and vehicular interfaces at level crossings. The client emphasised innovative digital delivery and a model-first approach.
The problem
A corridor-length programme of level crossing works generates hundreds of cross-section drawings. Producing those by hand is slow, and every alignment or design change invalidates the set.
What I built
Level crossing assets were modelled with attribution preserved so the models could be analysed rather than just viewed. The project GIS portal was set up and managed as the place all project data was collated and presented. Cross-section production along the rail corridor was automated, working closely with the client and contractors to model and visualise the route.
Outcome
Hundreds of cross-sections produced from the model rather than drafted, and regenerated as the design moved. The portal gave client and contractor a single view of the corridor data.
